Student Cultural Presentations

Our Global UGRAD students have been busy showcasing their home countries at cultural events from fashion shows, to dances, to presentations. Please enjoy these pictures and stories from some of those events.

“These are photos from the multicultural fashion show that took place on March 5th, 2022. This is my first time walking the runway in a fashion show. I’m very proud to wear my beautiful national costume and wave the Lao flag on stage. I am also proud to wear Sinh on stage which is a traditional tube skirt made of silk and is one of the most unique women’s costumes in Laos. Women in Laos wear Sinh on a daily basis, including to work, school, temples, formal ceremonies, and weddings.”

“Hi everyone. I’m Robel Mesfin from Ethiopia, studying at the University of Missouri in Columbia. The international student center team got a chance to volunteer at Rockbridge High School in Columbia, Missouri at their annual Global Village Day to celebrate and expose others to various cultures. I got a chance to reflect on my Ethiopian culture to the students and also met one Ethiopian girl and one Ethiopian student who were surprised to see me.”

“I had a fun presentation during the Pinoy Retreat organized by Central Washington University’s Filipino American Student Association. I could not contain my excitement when they invited me to present and teach Filipino language to the Filipino-American student here. To make my presentation and teaching more interesting, I gathered three iconic Filipino movie scenes and I let them reenact the scenes. So fun!”
