Meet Our New Teammates, Susan and Cara

Susan Yang currently serves as a Global UGRAD Program Officer for the East Asia Pacific and South Asia regions. Prior to this, she helped administer the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program and conducted research, data, and evaluation projects for the Girl Scouts River Valleys. Susan has a strong background in education including teaching abroad in South Korea and French Guiana for two years, leading programs in Southeast Asia for American students, and evaluating USAID education development projects in Senegal. She obtained her master’s degree in international education from the American University and bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Macalester College. California-born and Minnesota-raised, Susan is proud of her Hmong heritage and enjoys traveling, rock climbing, salsa dancing, and people watching.


Cara Richards joined World Learning as a Program Officer in August 2018. Prior to Cara’s role on the Global UGRAD team, she implemented thematic seminars throughout the world and assisted with the Alumni TIES Small Grants Program as part of the Alumni TIES Program. Earlier in her career, Cara served as a graduate assistant for study abroad at Old Dominion University, engaged university international students through campus programming, and interned at the Reves Center for Global Education at the College of William and Mary. In 2012, Cara began her career in international education and exchange at the nonprofit AFS Intercultural Programs. At AFS, Cara served as a team development specialist, where she secured housing for high school exchange students, sent American high school students abroad, and supported high school exchange students, including those participating in U.S. Government-sponsored exchange programs. Cara holds an M.S.Ed. in International Education and Educational Leadership from Old Dominion University, and a B.A. degree in Spanish Language Studies from Ramapo College of New Jersey. Cara is most excited to work with Global UGRAD students as the program serves as a transformative experience within their academic careers.
