Capacity Building Program for US Study Abroad Application

At the direction of the U.S. Department of State’s USA Study Abroad branch within the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, World Learning will be providing a small grants competition and virtual and in-person activities in 2019 to support the expansion and diversification of American student mobility as part of the Capacity Building Program for U.S. Study Abroad.  This is a program of the U.S Department of State with funding provided by the United States Government and supported in its implementation by World Learning.

The grant competition is open to all accredited U.S. institutions of higher education from associate’s colleges through doctoral universities. The program seeks to engage the full diversity of U.S. higher education, including community colleges and Minority Serving Institutions. On behalf of the U.S. Department of State’s USA Study Abroad branch, World Learning anticipates awarding approximately 21 grants for a maximum funding level of up to $35,000 each for a period of performance of up to 11 months starting on or about July 1, 2019. For more information regarding the grant competition and application, please visit our website.

In order to provide initiatives and activities that best suit the most pertinent needs for the widest array of stakeholders possible across the U.S., as well as to identify interested subject matter experts, we are conducting a national needs assessment of institutional study abroad capacity. We invite you to take few minutes to tell us about your and your institution’s experiences here so that we can better develop resources that are applicable to the broadest audience possible.
