Thailand Alumni Update by Petpailin Wiangnak

When I first arrived at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB), it was my very first time in the U.S. I completely appreciated my life in the States. There were a lot of beautiful places and, importantly, wonderful people. This inspired me and I had told myself that I would come back someday!

When I returned to my home university, I applied for an overseas research program and I was selected. My advisor had many options such as the UK, Australia, Hong Kong, and the U.S. I chose Duke University in the U.S. where I researched developing a medicine to cure cancer.

In July, I took a week off to visit Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, and revisit Bakersfield for two days! I was happy to meet old friends and Yuri, my advisor. It was really nice, but I felt a bit emotional to see Bakersfield and leave it once again. However, I am thankful I could make it to CSUB.

I am now going back to Thailand to finish my last semester. I will then pursue a masters or PhD in chemistry and apply for a scholarship abroad. I hope I can travel to European countries or the U.S. in the future.
