On the Road Again – World Learning on a Campus Near You!
This March, World Learning hit the road to visit two of our new host institution partners: Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Georgia and the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas. Site visits like these are some of the highlights of the semester: not only do we get to meet our colleagues and students face to face for the first time, but we get to experience firsthand what life is like for our participants on the Global UGRAD Program. Needless to say, after a few productive days on campus, we wish we could head back to university full-time!
Georgia College & State University (GCSU) is a small, friendly campus community chock-full of southern charm. The town used to be the Georgia state capital for 60+ years – including during the Civil War era – and the former governor’s mansion is located right on campus. Students have the opportunity to truly immerse themselves in the community (the downtown area is a 5 minute walk from campus!) and form strong bonds with their U.S. classmates through a dynamic lineup of student activities and clubs. All three Global UGRAD participants remarked that they felt right at home from the start of their experience at GCSU, due in large part to the warm welcome and continued generosity of spirit they have encountered these last few months.
University of the Ozarks is a small, tight-knit liberal arts university minutes from scenic Ozarks National Park in north-central Arkansas. Students have plenty of opportunities to go hiking, camping, and explore the great outdoors in the park through programs offered on campus. The university boasts an incredible amount of diversity, where 1 in 7 students is an international student. The two Global UGRAD participants are having an amazing time and have even started their own clubs on campus. The University of the Ozarks have been extremely supportive and excited to have the Global UGRAD participants, which has translated into incredible experiences for both the students and the university.
