El Salvador Alumni Update by Henry Martinez

Warm greetings from El Salvador!

I did my exchange program at the University of Mississippi from 2012 to 2013. Upon my return to my home country I finished my degree in Economics and Business and I graduated with the distinction of magna cum laude.

Since finishing my degree, I started to work in the private sector in El Salvador. By now I am in my fourth year of full-time employment. I work as a Regional Brand Manager for the biggest retail shoe company in Central America. I am in charge of all men’s lines for 90 stores. I have learned a lot and I have the opportunity to travel often to China, Mexico, and Central America which is an amazing experience both personally and professionally. In particular, working in China gives me a new perspective and allows me to know a different culture and a particular way of working.

Likewise, as young people we have been encouraged to be part of the change we want to see. That’s why I try to be involved in various community activities. I have served as a motivational speaker in different forums for young students from public institutions. These are students who come from difficult economic and social realities and are willing to take chances and push themselves to succeed in their lives. Also, I became the Alumni President of my home university for the 2015-2016 period.

At the moment, I am in the final process of the Chevening Scholarship and hoping to begin a Master’s program in the U.K. this year. I am pursuing a Master’s in Strategic Marketing and Consulting, with the idea to grow professionally and become a business consultant. The Global UGRAD program definitely helps to widen your perspective and become more active in your community. In fact, it gives you a motivation to look forward and achieve bigger goals.

A big hug for all Global UGRAD alumni!
